Terms of Service

By using Codex Cryptica, you agree to the following terms. This is a local-first application designed for campaign management and creative writing.

1. Description of Service

Codex Cryptica is a creative writing and lore management tool. It provides local storage, optional folder synchronization, and AI-assisted content generation via Google Gemini.

2. Data Ownership and Responsibility

  • Your Data: You own all content you create. We do not have access to your internal archives.
  • Responsibility: Since Codex Cryptica stores data locally in your browser (OPFS), you are responsible for maintaining backups. We recommend using the "Sync to Folder" feature to mirror your data to a stable location on your computer.
  • Loss of Data: We are not liable for any data loss resulting from browser cache clearing, device failure, or synchronization errors.

3. Local Folder Synchronization

  • Mechanism: The synchronization feature uses the Web File System Access API to mirror files between your browser and a local directory.
  • Cloud Providers: If you sync to a folder managed by a third-party service (e.g., Google Drive, Dropbox), you are subject to that provider's terms and conditions. Codex Cryptica is not responsible for the performance or security of these services.

4. AI Content Generation

  • API Usage: AI features require a valid connection to the Google Gemini API.
  • Content: You are responsible for the content generated by the AI. We do not guarantee the accuracy, safety, or appropriateness of AI-generated text or images.

5. Limitation of Liability

The software is provided "as is", without warranty of any kind. In no event shall the authors or copyright holders be liable for any claim, damages or other liability, whether in an action of contract, tort or otherwise, arising from, out of or in connection with the software or the use or other dealings in the software.

6. License

The application source code is licensed under the Polyform Noncommercial License 1.0.0. Refer to the LICENSE file in the project repository for more details.
